This treatment involves placing sequential piles of elephant dung at randomly selected spots located greater than 500 m from the nearest road, waterhole, or boma. Dung is placed at each camera for 21 days, beginning with two adult elephants worth of dung at Day 0, with additions of a single adult elephant worth of feces on Days 5, 10, and 15. Dung is then removed at day 21 and all dung removed from the camera detection zone for another 21 day 'no-dung' period. Cameras are checked every 10 days to ensure elephants did not naturally deposit dung at the camera site during the no-dung period.
