The InkaTerra Tambopata Wildlife Project is a joint initiative between InkaTerra Association (ITA) and the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) aiming to monitor abundance, richness, and occupancy of mammals in InkaTerra’s ecotourism properties located on both sides of the lower Madre de Dios River in the Amazonian forests of Peru. The objective of the project is to document terrestrial mammals and raise awareness among local people, governmental authorities, and the world to promote the creation of a 70,000-hectare forest corridor essential to the maintenance of landscape connectivity in the region. The research team is monitoring 302 points in two properties totaling 600 ha with 20 Reconyx Hyperfire camera traps randomly assigned to sampling points and moved every 21 days. Monitoring will continue throughout 2018.
