We Need Your Help!

We need to know what animals are found in the “data deserts” of North Carolina. Our volunteers have done a fantastic job running over a thousand wildlife cameras and capturing over 47,000 photos of wildlife, but we still need your help to run cameras in a few counties that have not yet seen much, if any, Candid Critters activity. The following counties have fewer than five wildlife cameras set up within their borders, so what wildlife is found there remains a bit of a mystery:

Any volunteer can deploy cameras in any county.  Simply choose a deployment site on our Site Selection Map. This way, you can help us discover what wildlife lives in regions that have limited volunteer involvement in the project, but are still very, very important areas for the project’s overall goal: to discover the wildlife of North Carolina. Plus, if you already have a camera that is currently in use at another location, you can go to your local library and check out multiple cameras so you can deploy at multiple locations!

If you find yourself on a family vacation in the remote, mysterious wetlands of Pitt County or would just love a short road trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains, you should bring a wildlife camera with you! Need an excuse to visit the state and national parks across North Carolina? Set up a camera trap in these data-parched counties that the NCCC Project has yet to explore!
