Morona BMAP Camera Trapping
To understand the impact of the construction of an oil pipeline in the Amazon rainforest, terrestrial camera traps will be monitoring wildlife before, during, and after construction. With these data, we will be able to study the dynamics of the different species of ground mammals that inhabit this part of the northern Peruvian Amazonia. In addition, we will monitor the effectiveness of efforts to mitigate the impact on canopy-dwelling mammals through the preservation of natural canopy bridges over the pipeline right-of-way. The bridges will also be monitored using camera traps before, during, and after the pipeline’s construction. It is the first time natural canopy bridges will be monitored during the entire process of a pipeline’s construction.
