Willowsford Conservancy Deer Impact Study Project

This project is designed to estimate deer abundance within each of the four Willowsford Conservancy villages in Northern Virginia. We will do this using wildlife cameras placed in each village for August through September. During this 60-day period we will place cameras at 20 locations within the 4 villages (allocation based on village area) for 20 days each. The cameras will record doe to fawn ratios, doe to buck ratios, and total deer detections per camera night. This information will be used to gauge deer productivity of each village, impact of hunting on sex ratio, and relative density of deer compared to the level of browse damage calculated from vegetation surveys.
