We will place four cameras in each fragment of secondary forest. Cameras will be at least 200m from one another, and fragments will be at least 1km from one another. We will leave cameras out for 2 months at a time. We will survey a total of six fragments.
We will place four cameras in each oil palm plantation. Cameras will be separted by at least 200m from one another, and oil palm plantations will be separated from one another by at least 1 km. We plan to leave cameras for two months in each location. We will survey a total of six oil palm plantations and six forest fragments.
This project examines the impact of oil palm plantations on mammal diversity and activity patterns in southeastern Mexico. We are comparing mammal use of oil palm plantations to mammal use of patches of secondary forest.
