Eastern gray squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) are known to communicate by leaving scent at marking points throughout their home ranges by cheek rubbing, biting bark, and sometimes urinating.

A high-density camera trap array (a 90 x 60 m plot, with 54 camera traps randomly located within 54, 10 x 10 m grid cells). Cameras were deployed during winter months (December - March) only, for two consecutive years: 2017-2018 and 2018-2019. Grid location is the same, but exact camera placement and camera id may not be the same between years.

This project aims to assess this variation in detection rates by comparing detections with known animal movement paths. During the winter of 2017-2018, we are running a high-density camera trap array (a 90 x 60 m plot, with 54 camera traps randomly located within 54, 10 x 10 m grid cells) within a hardwood forest stand at the Huyck Preserve in Rensselaerville, New York.
